On April 25, 1972, 20-year-old Jeannette Kamahele was last seen hitchhiking on the Cotati on-ramp off of Highway 101 in Santa Rosa, California. A friend of hers spotted her and was going to pull over to pick her up, but another vehicle beat them to it. It was a faded brown 1970-1972 Chevrolet pickup truck. The man in vehicle was described as being a white man between 20 and 30-years-old. He had an afro hairstyle. This was the last time anyone saw her.

At the time she was a student at Santa Rosa Junior College and was living with a roommate in the 900 block of Sierra Ave. She was described as a conscientious student and it was out of character for her to disappear.

Around the same time as Jeannette's disappearance, 7 other known females disappeared. These women were later found murdered all of them being habitual hitchhikers and between 12 and 23-years-old. It's possible a serial killer was operating in the area. She is suspected to be another victim of the Santa Rosa Hitchhiker Murders.

Murder of Lora Jean Dugan

Image credited to Billings Gazzette. It's of Laura Jean Dugan's necklace

14-year-old Lora Jean Dugan was last seen on April 7, 1972, when she ran away from home. She had an argument with her mother before stomping out of the house. Lora got on the bus but didn't go to school. Instead, she handed a friend her books and walked off towards I-94 in Huntley, Montana. She told them she planned on hitchhiking to Lame Deer, Montana or St. Paul, Minnesota. This was the last time anyone saw her alive.

On April 30, 1972, her body was found approximately 3 miles southwest of Medora, North Dakota. The area she was found in was 250 miles away and it's unknown what she did before her death. It took until May for her to be identified.

She was only wearing a jacket when she was found. There was evidence her hands were bound at one point. The stab to her stomach was not what killed her, but her killer strangled her to death. There is a possibility she was sexually assaulted. Her necklace that's pictured above was found hanging on a branch on a tree nearby. She had died between April 7 to April 21st.

It is unknown what Lora had done in the time before her death.
