Chesham Cozies

Photo by Hotfish1 (Obscura Atlas User)

Along the Pedestrian East Street towards the Red Lion in Chesham, England. You will see a nice sight. over the Iron bollards that are usualy unadorned someone had made cozies that covered them. The cozies are snugly fitted, multicolored, and hand knitted by an unknown person. No one seems to have any objections to the cozies and are actually welcomed by both townspeople and visitors. When the cozies begin to fade assumingly the person who made them originally will replace them with a new one.

Unknown Artists: Antimenes Painter

Olive Gathering, amphora, ‚circa 520 BC.

The Antimenes Painter is an unknown Attic vase painter with the use of the black-figure style and 150 works have been attributed to them. He got his name from an archaeological convention, derived from the Kalos inscription on a hydria in the archaeological museum of Leyden. He's known to be active between circa 530 and 510 BC like in Etruria as most of his works were found there. He may have a connection with the workshop of Andokides.

He depicted the current repertoire of his periods such as the adventures of Herakles, Dionysos and his companions, and chariot scenes. His work and themes are described as organized and his distinctive motifs are idyllic. They often included subsidiaries in the main narrative.

His drawing style is similar to Psiax and influences of early red-figure style, but regardless he used the black figure technique.

Unknown Artists: Philadelphia Wireman

Work by the Philadelphia Wireman at the Lille Métropole Museum of Modern, Contemporary, and Outsider Art

The Philadelphia Wireman is the name given to an unknown artist responsible for around 1,200 small-scare wire-frame sculptures. The sculptures were found by a passerby on a street outside of a transient home in Philidelphia, Pennsylvania in 1982.

It's been hypothesized that it may be possible that the statues were abandoned after the artist's death. This is unknown though as the artist is unknown. It's assumed that the artist had access to tools that helped with the bending of heavy-gauge wire. Some of the sculptures are believed to resemble African art and due to the demographic of the area, it's believed that they may have been African American.

In 1999 according to the Fleischer-Ollman Gallery, a visitor came and identified the street the art was found on. The visitor stated that they had seen an elderly black man working on the sculptures around 1970, but it's still unknown who the artist is.

Anonymous Artist: I.A.M of Zwolle

Monograms that help Identify his work
The Betrayal of Christ, (c. 1485)
IAM of Zwolle is was an anonymous printmaker active between 1470 to 1495. He was a Netherlandish artist who's identified from his monogram of IA or IAM and even Zwolle where they may have been from.

The artist may not have had a colorful medium from the printmaking, but his style showed how much tonal nuance engraved pictures could contain. Prints usually use just one ink color and IAM Zwolle was able to create images with depth. The way he spaced out the lines made it seem as if the images were an actual scene. Closer the lines were caused a darker tone and the further the lines were allowed a white or lighter tone.

It was believed that IAM Zwolle was not just a printmaker, but a painter as well from his understanding of tones in his work. Today it is unknown who this artist is or if they have other works under another name. Some suspected that it was Johan van den Minnesten a painter from Zwolle, but his works did not survive they can't compare them.
