Urban Legends: Freshman in the Morgue

In the 1980's at Hong Kong University, a terrifying prank was done on a freshman. The Seniors of the Faculty of Medicine wanted to pull a terrifying, but overall to be believed to be a harmless prank on an unsuspecting Freshman. They would lock the freshman in the morgue overnight.

The next day the seniors would show up before the teachers. This was when they found the freshman. He was injured and covered in bitemarks and scars. Even more terrifying he was found to be devouring the bodies.

As a result of this the incident was released in the school magazine the next year. This was the reason that there was a new rule stating no one was to be locked up in the morgue

Ghosts: El Silbón

Effigy of El Silbón at a Venezualan theme park

The legend of El Silbón started in the middle of the 19th century in Columbia and Venezuela. He is most known in the Los Llanos region. He was described as a lost soul cursed to wander. There are a couple of versions of the story but both state that he was the son of a farmer. He would then kill his father and soon after tortured and killed. He was cursed to carry the bag of bones of his father.

It's known when he's around as he whistles. The whistle notes are C,D,E,F,G,A,B in that order. It rises in tone to F and lowers to B. When you hear the whistles close do not worry, but when it's in a distance that is when you're in danger. It's said his whistle foretells your death. The only thing to save the soon-to-be victim is the bark of the dog, a chili, or a whip. He typically preys on womanizers and drunks.

One version of how he became a spirit was that he was a spoiled brat who demanded that his father hunts for a deer. It was his favorite typed of meat and when his father returned empty-handed he became furious. He would then kill his father cut out his heart and liver and have his mother unknowingly cook it for dinner.

His mother found that the meal was strange and tough. She begins to suspect that something was wrong. She would then find out that they were her husband's remains. His other would curse her son and his grandfather would order him to be tortured. In a long painful process first, his back was whipped, and salt was put into the wounds. After he was satisfied with the wounds two large monstrous dogs were on him biting his ankles. He would run into the woods and never be seen again. His grandfather would curse him to carry his father's bones.

In the other version, he was a married young man who worked on his father's farm in Venezuela. One day his father berated his wife and called her a whore. She would tell El Silbón what happened and this infuriated him. He would then confront his father and killed him. His fate is the same where he is tortured for a long time with whips and salt, eventually being chased into the forest by dogs.

Monsters: Black Annis

In the countryside of Leicestershire, England there is a cannibalistic witch living in a dark cave in the Dane Hills. She's known as Black Annis' Bower by the locals. She is very tall and horrible, with blue skin, long sharp teeth, claw-like fingers, and glowing eyes. The entrance of the cave is an old oak tree which she often hides at night and waits for her next meal.

She only leaves the cave to find tasty children with the tastiest being those who misbehave. If no children could be found then she would feed on livestock like sheep and lambs. It was most common to see her pull the children with her long arms through windows (no glass at the time). The children would be warned of her visit as her howl could be heard from miles away. Sometimes you can even hear her teeth grinding.

She would suck her preys dry of blood, and then the skins are hung on the oak tree to dry.

Her cave was filled with dirt into the late 1800s, possibly burying Black Annis in her home. It's unknown as it's believed that she was an immortal being able to adapt to the modern world. It's said that she adopted the name Cat Anna at the end of the 1800s and was said to be living in cellars under Leicester Castle where a supposed subterranean passage connect to Dane Hills.

It's unknown where Black Annis would reside now. Her territory is entirely lost now as the hillside is now a large housing estate.

February 5, 1924 Jinnampo, North Korea Doe

On February 5, 1924, the body of a mutilated toddler was found in Jinnampo, South Pyongan Province, North Korea. At the time it was under Japanese Occupation and Japanese police were in charge. A publication ban was placed so it was not widely reported.

The infant was estimated to be around 2 years old and his death was horrific as they were done to him while still alive. His neck was severed, their limbs and genitals were removed, their skull was fractured, and their brain had been removed.

A suspect was quickly arrested, 24-year-old Lee Chang-po. He had reported to the police that he had witnessed the child's brutal murder and the details matched the scene. Lee was suffering from syphilis and was considered mentally unwell. After his arrest, he would confess but he seemed confused. He was often repeating vague statements and mumbled and mismatched words. He claimed he dug up the child from the cemetery, but that was untrue.

He would recant his confession as it after the autopsy contradicted him. He would then claim that he did it himself and that the missing flesh, organs, and limbs would be found at his home. When Lee lead officers to the home they came across his mother and he asked her "Where did you put the knife and child's flesh you used earlier?" His mother screamed at him "This crazy person!" and refused any involvement with the child's death. Other family members also denied any involvement and the house turned up nothing.

There was no evidence against Lee and they determined that he lied during his confession. Lee was mentally ill and this helped clear him. They believed he may have witnessed the murder as he stated and that his family was the ones who had done it. If they had it was possible that they believed like a Korean superstition at the time that eating the liver of a young person or child would cure diseases.

Demons: Kishi

In Angola, there is a legend of a demon called Kishi. The Kishi is a two-faced man with an attractive man's face in the front and in the back of his head a hungry Hyena beneath their long hair. The hyena face is said to have long teeth and jaws. They use their human face to attract and use smooth talk with young women. When they trick the young women they will use their hyena face to eat the women. Once the hyena's face bites into something the thing is unable to be pulled away or escape because of its large jaws.

In some legends, the Kishi will marry the woman so that they'd have a child. After a child is born the Kishi will kill the woman and then leave with the child to raise it as a Kishi.
