Murder of Lecia McGee

On Jan. 22, 1978, 17-year-old Lecia McGee went over to Whaley's home to watch movies and eat pizza. The Whaley's were former neighbors who moved four miles away from their home in Fort Worth, Texas. Lecia would leave around 12 to 12:30 a.m. to return home, but she would never arrive.

When Lecia's older sister came home with a friend her mother sent the two out to look for Lecia. Thinking that Lecia was still at the Whaley's they drove over to find she wasn't there. It was lightly snowing at the time and Lecia's sister thought it was possible her car had broken down. The two would drive around looking for the car, but after a few hours of searching nothing was found.

Fear would set in and Lecia's mother would call the police. Family members would set out to try to find Lecia. Later that morning her car was found with a flat parked at 2300 S.W Loop 820 in Fortworth. This was only a few miles away from where she lived.

There was blood on the back bumper and inside the trunk was Lecia's body. Her throat had been slashed and she had been stabbed several times. There was a great struggle inside the car. Blood covered the front seat and there was a broken back armrest. Her jacket and scarf laid in the back seat and her car keys and two billfolds were found tossed nearby near a fence several feet away.

It's possible that someone under the guise of helping her with her flat attacked her. But it seemed that she had wounds indicating that the attacker grabbed her from behind and may have been in the back of the car already when Lecia left the Whaley's home. She was not sexually assaulted, but police believe that it may be possible that was the initial motive of the attack and Lecia was killed while fighting back.

A cigarette at the scene contained DNA from a man named Robin Carter. He lived in the area at the time and has been in and out of jail over the years for violent crimes. He claims that he had nothing to do with Lecia's murder. The case against Carter is considered weak and charges have not been filed.

Murder of William Arliss "Curly" Shelton

32-year-old William "Curly" Shelton was a T.V. star in Evansville, Indiana. He was a regular on "Hillside Hoedown" a popular Saturday night country music variety show that aired on  WEHT-TV in northwestern Kentucky and Southwestern Indiana, and Eastern Illinois. He was a guitarist and vocalist.

On December 4, 1957, Curly was found lying face down in the front seat of his convertible behind the behind VFW Club on  U.S. 41A and 3 miles South of Henderson, Kentucky. He had been beaten to death. There was no weapons used on him and it seemed his killer used their fists and stomped on him. He had a fractured skull and a broken leg. He was seemed to have been beaten outside of his vehicle and then thrown into the vehicle after the beating.
He was kind of a playboy and was involved with several women. Some of who were married or in a relationship. He was also a heavy drinker and in deep debt, but police said robbery doesn't seem to have been the motive. It could be possible one of the women he was involved with's boyfriend or husband killed him. This case has never been solved.

Murder of Thomas and Elizabeth Whittemore

On August 24, 1968 32 year old Thomas Whittemore and his wife 30 year old Elizabeth Whittemore were last seen in their filling station. It was found that two days worth of receipts and a bag of money were missing from the station. The couple were from Rutland City.

On September 4. 1968 a couple taking walk in the woods found the Whittmore's car Fire Hill Rd., in Pittsford Vt. The road they were found on was considered abandoned. Mr. Whittemore was in the passenger seat and Mrs. Whittemore was found slumped against the right side of the vehicle. It was determined that the two died from multiple gunshot wounds to the back of the head. The gun used was a .22 caliber revolver and was never recovered.

It could be possible the couple were abducted from the filling station and robbery was a motive. As the two days of receipts and money were never found. Money in Mr. Whittemore's wallet and Mrs. Whittemore's purse was untouched. Another theory is that the motive was murder, but made it look like robbery of the filling station.

According to the older news reports two New Jersey women were the last to see the couple at the filling station. It is unknown to me if these two women were found.
