Urban Legends: Licked Hand

The Licked Hand is an Urban Legend that has been around since before 1982 as the earliest print of the urban legend was from February of that year. Typically the main character of the Urban legend is a young girl or a woman with bad eyesight.

One version of the story goes that a young girl is home alone for the first time with her dog as her only company. She decided to watch T.V.and when the news came on stating there is a serial killer preying in or near her neighborhood it spooks her. She would then go around making sure all the doors and windows were locked, unfortunately, she would forget about the one in the basement.

Later that night she would go to bed taking her dog to her room with her. The dog did not sleep on the bed but preferred to sleep underneath it. She would wake up to a dripping noise and it made her uneasy. To reassure herself she reached her hand down for her dog. He would then lick her hand and reassured her everything was fine.

The next morning she noticed that the dog was not in her room. She was not concerned about this. As she was thirsty so she went to the bathroom to get a glass of water. Inside was horrifying sight. The Dog was mutilated and hanging in the shower and the drips she heard were his blood. Written on the shower wall were the words "HUMANS CAN LICK TOO."

The next morning when she wakes, she goes to the bathroom for a drink of water only to find her dead, mutilated dog hanging in the shower with his blood slowly dripping onto the tiles. On the shower wall, written in the dog's blood, are the words "HUMANS CAN LICK TOO."

Unidentified Victims of Li Zhangou

Xiaoqi John Doe is the first victim of Chinese Serial Killer Li Zhanguo. Li Zhangou was known as the "The Henan Gay Murderer". He would kill, mutilate, and rape 11 mentally disabled teenagers and young men between 1991 and 1995.  Li Zhangou was a suspect early in the murders. There was no evidence to arrest him, but he was caught by officers with a potential victim on August 4, 1995. He would admit to being the killer. He would be prosecuted and executed in 1995.

Going by the type of person Li Zhangou targeted it's likely that the victims were mentally disabled.

1st Victim: Xiaoqi John Doe

On March 18, 1991 there was a fire burning in a field in the Xiaoqi Township, China. Someone had set fire to a set of wheat straws. When the fire was extinguished the charred body of a young man was found. He was lying on his back his head and genitals were removed. His head would be found in a well 24 meters away to the west and his genitals were found in a ditch southwest of his body. It was found that from his stomach contents he had died recently and had been strangled to death with a cord.

3rd Victim: 1992 Yangzhuang Township John Doe

On July 26, 1992, a neatly dressed young man (Li Zhangou) was seen with a young man (John Doe). They were seen walking from the Yangzhuan railway and even seen sleeping in a wheat field together that night. On their journey, it was seen that the well-dressed young man was hitting the other young man with a stick. On July 27th the well-dressed man was now seen leading the naked man to an abandoned explosives warehouse. It was later seen the well-dressed young man was sitting on the steps alone.

On July 29th John Doe's body was found in the warehouse. He had died due to blunt force trauma due to an unknown weapon. On the walls"I am the killer" and "Sacrifice" was written in the victim's blood.

7th Victim: 1993 Xiaoqi John Doe

There is little information on this victim. On October 15, 1993, he was found dead in a canal in Xiaoqi Township. He may have been a mental patient as he had screws inserted in his hands.

8th Victim: 1994 Xiaoqi John Doe

On February 20, 1994, John Doe's lower body (below the waist) was found in a canal with burn marks on his legs. The next day the upper half without his head with identical burn marks was found. he was cut in half and set on fire before being tossed in the canal.

Monsters: Black Annis

In the countryside of Leicestershire, England there is a cannibalistic witch living in a dark cave in the Dane Hills. She's known as Black Annis' Bower by the locals. She is very tall and horrible, with blue skin, long sharp teeth, claw-like fingers, and glowing eyes. The entrance of the cave is an old oak tree which she often hides at night and waits for her next meal.

She only leaves the cave to find tasty children with the tastiest being those who misbehave. If no children could be found then she would feed on livestock like sheep and lambs. It was most common to see her pull the children with her long arms through windows (no glass at the time). The children would be warned of her visit as her howl could be heard from miles away. Sometimes you can even hear her teeth grinding.

She would suck her preys dry of blood, and then the skins are hung on the oak tree to dry.

Her cave was filled with dirt into the late 1800s, possibly burying Black Annis in her home. It's unknown as it's believed that she was an immortal being able to adapt to the modern world. It's said that she adopted the name Cat Anna at the end of the 1800s and was said to be living in cellars under Leicester Castle where a supposed subterranean passage connect to Dane Hills.

It's unknown where Black Annis would reside now. Her territory is entirely lost now as the hillside is now a large housing estate.

Monsters: Tano Giant

In the Upper parts of the Boin Tano Forest in Ghana, Africa, a tale is told by the natives of the area of the Tano Giant. It seems to be a bigfoot-like creature described as a white ape of extraordinary structure and human instinct. They are described as larger than a man with arms as thick as a man's body. His skin is white, but black hair grows on it. They only have four fingers and no thumbs, the head is flat and small for its size, but the same size as a large monkey's head. His facial features are similar to monkeys, their mouth is the same, and has large teeth. It's said that they carry the skin of a bush cow and during the when cold. The creature is also dangerous.

A hunter once tried to shoot the Tano Giant, but the creature broke the gun and the hunter's arms. There are other similar stories. It attacked two women gathering plantains and kidnapped one and the other woman left screaming. This woman was never found again. It's said that several children were kidnapped by it and their bodies were later found mutilated with their bowels devoured.

To help keep the Tano Giant away doors are barricaded at night and broiled plantains and cassava are left on the jungle paths to the village. This is to help appease his hunger and hope he does not find his next meal in the village. But if they do appear in the village he only runs away when a fire is thrown at them.

February 5, 1924 Jinnampo, North Korea Doe

On February 5, 1924, the body of a mutilated toddler was found in Jinnampo, South Pyongan Province, North Korea. At the time it was under Japanese Occupation and Japanese police were in charge. A publication ban was placed so it was not widely reported.

The infant was estimated to be around 2 years old and his death was horrific as they were done to him while still alive. His neck was severed, their limbs and genitals were removed, their skull was fractured, and their brain had been removed.

A suspect was quickly arrested, 24-year-old Lee Chang-po. He had reported to the police that he had witnessed the child's brutal murder and the details matched the scene. Lee was suffering from syphilis and was considered mentally unwell. After his arrest, he would confess but he seemed confused. He was often repeating vague statements and mumbled and mismatched words. He claimed he dug up the child from the cemetery, but that was untrue.

He would recant his confession as it after the autopsy contradicted him. He would then claim that he did it himself and that the missing flesh, organs, and limbs would be found at his home. When Lee lead officers to the home they came across his mother and he asked her "Where did you put the knife and child's flesh you used earlier?" His mother screamed at him "This crazy person!" and refused any involvement with the child's death. Other family members also denied any involvement and the house turned up nothing.

There was no evidence against Lee and they determined that he lied during his confession. Lee was mentally ill and this helped clear him. They believed he may have witnessed the murder as he stated and that his family was the ones who had done it. If they had it was possible that they believed like a Korean superstition at the time that eating the liver of a young person or child would cure diseases.

Murders of Barbara Nantais

On the night of August 13, 1978, 15-year-old Barbra Nantais and her boyfriend went to Torrey Pines State Beach in California. When they were sleeping in their sleeping bags together on the beach they were attacked. On the morning of August 13, 1978, someone walking on the beach found Barbra's body. Police would come and find her boyfriend semi-conscious with a severe head injury and no memory of the night.

Her boyfriend's head was beaten with a rock and a log from the fire near them. Barbara's death had been so much more brutal. She had been beaten and strangled and sexually assaulted. The sand was found in her mouth. Her body would be mutilated as one of her breasts had been severed. The killer would then drag her nude body near the lifeguard tower and positioned her to spread eagle.

In 1984 there was an extremely similar murder of 14-year-old Claire Hough on the same beach. It's likely that the two were murdered by the same person.

Murder of Chrissie Clare Venn

Around 5 p.m. on Feb. 20, 1921, 13-year-old Chrissie Venn left her home on Allison Rd. in North Motton, Tasmania, Australia. She was going to walk 3 miles into town to go run some errands and go to the shop. She didn't arrive back home.

On March 1, 1921, her body was found in a log by a searcher. She was on Allison Road. She had been suffocated or strangled and seemed to have been sexually assaulted.  One source states that twine used for hay bailing was tied around her neck and her mouth was stuffed with pieces of cloth from her dress, and the cloth had a gold pin attached to it. Another source states her body had been mutilated, but it's unknown if it had been or not. It's believed that she may have died sometime on Feb 26th.

Former police officer and minor, George William King, was tried for the crime. He had cuts on his hands that made him suspicious. He claimed his hands were cut up due to a log falling on them while searching for Chrissie. The trial started on August 21 of the same year and was done in Hobart. Albert Ogilvie defended him and William was found not guilty.

It's unknown if William had really killed her or if someone else from the small farming community had. It'll never be known what had really happened to the poor girl.

It's believed that Chrissie haunts the road she was killed on.

Murder of Segametsi Mogomotsi

On November 5, 1994, 14-year-old Segametsi Mogomotsi was selling oranges to raise money for a school trip in Mochudi, Botswana. She was described as a bright and clever girl. At one point some men bought all of the oranges. They stated that they didn't have any change and would come back.

When they came back they stuffed a cotton cloth into her mouth and dragged her to a hill. They stripped her and began their ritualistic murder. They stripped her tied her hands and blindfolded her. Her cries were heard sometime during the night saying along the lines of  "M., Leave me alone, how can you kill me, I know you." It's believed that three men chose her because she was poor and believed no one would notice or report it if she disappeared.

Her body was found in an open space the next day. Her anus, pieces of breasts, and pieces of the vagina were taken from her. Many believe that she was targeted and murdered for the parts that were taken were believed to be used in black magic potions for the religion Dipheko for Muti that's used to promote business deals. Because Segametsi was young and a bright student her murderers may have believed that their Muti would be successful.

Her murder led to students of the Radikolo Community Junior Secondary School to start protests. In Jan. of 1995 they organized a march at the District Commissioner's office in Mochudi. The march had to lead to riots and both students and police officers were hurt in the process.

Murder of Joshua Walden

On Friday December 8, 2000 10 year old Joshua Walden was trying to find a way to fix his bike tire. He was last seen riding his bike near his Chattanooga, Tennessee home. He never came back home, and never would.

It was believed that Josh had forgotten to tell them that he was staying the night at a friends. He was very particular about getting home at a certain time in the morning. He never came home though. That night they searched for him, but did not find the boy. The next day Josh's brother searched the area of  East Lake Park where they rode bikes.

That was when they found a bare foot peaking out of a pile of leaves. It was Joshes. He was smothered to death. There were superficial marks and scratches on Josh's nose and right side of his face. The murderer poured muriatic acid onto his body. His shoes and bike was never found.

His sister had said Josh was typical 10 year old kid. He loved football, video games and riding his bike and helping people. The little old ladies in the neighbor hood loved him. He would walk around the neighborhood asking if they needed their grass cut.
.
Josh even loved wearing his shoes. He'd wear them everywhere and even to bed. When his parents took off his shoes when he was sleeping Josh would be irritated that they did it. So it is unlikely that Josh had taken his own shoes off.

Urban Legend: Skinned Tom

It was the 1920's and even though times were tough Tom had enough charm and good looks to go around. When he had dated every girl in his hometown in Tennessee  he'd decided to move on to the neighboring town. This was when he met sweet Eleanor.

Eleanor was different than all the other girls he'd dated. Of course he was physically attracted to her she was gorgeous, but something about Eleanor made Tom want to stick around. It wasn't known if Tom knew, but Elanor was married. It probably wouldn't had mattered any way, because he was smitten with her.

Her husband did not want to believe the rumor going around town. That his beloved Eleanor was cheating on him. In order to either catch her in the act or prove the town wrong he told her he was going on a weekend trip. He never did leave town, but instead hid in the woods to keep an eye on her. When he saw Tom pull up and she got in the car her husband became enraged.

He carefully followed the two with his car. When they pulled into a Lover's Lane and everything got hot and heavy. Tom was suddenly pulled out of the car. Her husband had a knife up against him.

"So you're the man who's been with my wife!" He screamed at poor Tom.

"Please, she never told me she was married. I'd never take another man's girl!" Tom was begging for his life, but he was unsuccessful.

Eleanor sat in the car terrified watching as her husband dragged poor Tom into the woods. She sat waiting for her fate as she hear Tom's screams. She didn't know what to do, but was to terrified to do anything. Eventually Tom's screams stopped and her husband came out bloodied without his knife.

Her husband sat in the car and drove both of them to the police station. He had turned himself in. When the police arrived to get Tom's body they arrived to see the skin of a man hanging in a tree. The body it belonged was no where around. The knife that was used on him cold not be found either.

It's said that Tom now haunts the Lovers Lanes in Tennessee. He was going to give people commiting adultery the terrible fate he suffered.

Urban Legend: Kuchisake Onna or The Slit Mouth Woman

If you're wandering down the streets of Japan and meet a woman with a surgical mask on asking "Am I pretty?" think twice about your answers to her questions. It might be Kuchisake Onna or the Slit Mouthed Woman and she might not have good plans for you.

The legend starts with a beautiful woman who had a jealous husband. He was convinced that his beautiful wife must be cheating on him. So he did the unspeakable so that she wouldn't be attractive to anyone else. In a fit of rage he slit her mouth ear to ear it resulted in her death and she came back as a vengeful spirit.

She would wear a surgical mask, which is not uncommon in Japan. She will stop a lone child and ask them a simple question.

"Am I pretty?"

There are two ways the child could answer. A no will result in her cutting them in half with her large scissors.

A yes will result in Kushisake Onna taking off her mask revealing her large torn smile and asking another simple question.

"How about Now?"

A No will once again result in death. She will cut off your head with the scissors.

A yes will result in a smile of your own that she will create with her large scissors.

If you run there is no way you'd survive as she will chase you down. Every time you turn around she will be behind you. Then she will reappear in front of you and cut you in half.  There is almost no way to escape from the slit-mouthed woman.

There is one way however you can survive without injury. When she asks her first question, "Am I pretty?" You answer with a neutral answer for example "You're so and so." or distract her with candy or money she will become confused and you will be able to escape.

It's believed that the legend of Kuchisake-onna started during Japan's Edo Period (1603-1867). She is described as a malevolent spirit. She is typically seen partially covering her face, particularly her mouth or another item. She is usually carrying sharp items like scissors. She has long straight black hair, pale skin, and is beautiful except for her slit mouth.

Death of Vicki Lynn Harrell

Vicki Lynn Harrell was a 25-year-old divorcee who was last seen alive on August 12, 1972. She was seen getting into a four-door, dark blue 1965 Plymouth Valiant in the K-Mart parking lot in Bloomington, Indiana.

When her roommate had not heard from her they got worried. They reported her missing on August 13, 1972. Her car was found on August 14, 1972, near the parking lot of College Mall in Bloomington, Indiana. The body of Vicki Harrell was found the same day.

Her nude body was found lying face down in a water-filled ditch on an access road to McCormick's Creek State Park, approximately 2.5 miles east of Spencer, Indiana. Her body had signs of sexual assault. She had been strangled and had the letters KN carved into her chest after death.

I do realize in official reports and in the newspapers that Vicki's name is spelled as Vickie. I used the spelling of Vicki because that was what was on her gravestone.
