On the night of August 13, 1978, 15-year-old Barbra Nantais and her boyfriend went to Torrey Pines State Beach in California. When they were sleeping in their sleeping bags together on the beach they were attacked. On the morning of August 13, 1978, someone walking on the beach found Barbra's body. Police would come and find her boyfriend semi-conscious with a severe head injury and no memory of the night.
Her boyfriend's head was beaten with a rock and a log from the fire near them. Barbara's death had been so much more brutal. She had been beaten and strangled and sexually assaulted. The sand was found in her mouth. Her body would be mutilated as one of her breasts had been severed. The killer would then drag her nude body near the lifeguard tower and positioned her to spread eagle.
In 1984 there was an extremely similar murder of 14-year-old Claire Hough on the same beach. It's likely that the two were murdered by the same person.
