Murder of Robert S. Gutkaiss

June 30, 1983, was the first day of 15-year-old Robert Gutkaiss's job picking strawberries at the Pease farm in Stephentown, New York. He was supposed to call his parents around 5 or 6 to get a ride back home as he lived around 7 miles away from the farm. He was last seen on Route 22 walking towards Stephentown. He was supposed to return to the farm later that night to receive his pay. This would be the last time anyone saw him alive.

On July 8th Robert's body would be found by joggers near a logging road off East Rd. in Stephentown. The day before there was a report about an awful smell. Robert's cause of death is undetermined but is believed to be a homicide. Earlier news reports claimed that the death may have been sexually motivated.
