On the evening of February 5, 1999, 20-year-old Hien Minh Pham was hanging out with friends. They would decide after 1 a.m. of the next morning to go to Taco Bell on 4933 SE Powell Blvd. in Portland Oregon. At approximately 1:55 a.m. they took two cars and Hien was in the drive-through ahead of his friends.
Two Asian males approached his friend's car. The men would assault the driver of the car and Hien would get out of his car to help them. He was then surrounded by 6 to 7 more Asian males and they proceeded to assault him and ended up stabbing him. He would make it to the hospital but would pass.
The suspects left the scene in possibly a light purple Honda Civic and a dark blue Honda Accord. All the suspects were Asian males between 17 to 20-years-old. They were wearing red shirts and belts. It's suspected that Hien may have been associated with an Asian Gang and a rival Gang attacked them.
