Murder of Thang Thi "Lilly" Nguyen

Around 12:34 p.m. on July 25, 1993 gunshots were heard by residents in the 1400 block of SE Belmont in Portland, Oregon. A resident left his apartment and went across the street to a video rental store on 1403 SE Belmont. On the sidewalk in front of the store was the owner Thang this "Lilly" Nguyen.

She was laying on the sidewalk bleeding from a gunshot wound. She would tell the neighbor "They killed me, they killed me." She would make it to the hospital but would die due to her injuries three hours later.

A passing motorist told police that they saw two Asian males running from the area around the time of the shooting. Another motorist stated they saw two young Asian males standing at the door of the video store and a midsize white vehicle may be associated with the two men. It's possible that the two males seen were involved in the shooting and since Lilly stated "they killed me" it may have been more than one person involved.

It was found that her purse was missing and motivation may have been a robbery. She was described as the nicest person in the neighborhood and would resist a mugger and would hand over her stuff.
