On April 16, 1964, 13-year-old Virginia Williams was walking to work In Columbia, South Carolina. She never returned home and was reported missing. Three days later a man named E.D. Johnson learned of her disappearance and told the family that he saw her on the day she disappeared and hear a scream afterward, but didn't think anything of it.
He led her two older sisters to the area he last saw Virginia. One of them was holding a jar of ice water in case Virginia was thirsty and hurt. He took them to the woods that lined the railroad track. They would find Virginia's body.
She had been raped, strangled with a piece of her clothing, and stabbed. A ring that was given to her was taken. It's believed that while walking on the tracks she was grabbed and dragged into the woods and attacked.
