On the night of June 19, 1991, 20-year-old Shawna Vanderbasch at the Calgary Restaurant, she was hanging out with three of her co-workers. Around 9:30 p.m. she and two friends went to see the Tasmanian Ball Room for the fashion show benefit for Sherrif King Home. The place was located on 12th Ave. and 1st St. in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

Around 1:30 a.m. she left the fashion show. A friend dropped her off near her home on the corner of Southland Drive and MacLeod Trail around 3:30 a.m

Around 8:30 a.m. a 14-year-old boy running late for school found Shawna's nude body in a ditch beside a rural road approximately  4.5. km from Priddis turnoff north of Highway 22X in Turner Valley.

Shawna didn't live in the area long. She lived in Vancouver most of her teen and adult life and had moved to Calgary in March of 91. She was employed as a hairdresser for the Moda Hair Design.

They did have a suspect, but he was ruled out due to DNA Evidence.
