Murder of Leah Ulbrich

Around 4:49 a.m. on October 29, 1995 Law enforcement was receiving calls of a woman, 24-year-old Leah Ulbrich, being dragged by a vehicle from Locust St. west on Elliot St. toward Wethersfield Ave. in Hartford, Connecticut. One caller gave the car description as similar to a 1995 or a recent year Nissan Maxima or similar make. Another caller, an unidentified female, made a call using a fire emergency telephone at the coroner of Elliot St. and Wethersfield Ave. and saw the woman being dragged.

Prior to the 911 calls, a Hartford Police officer patrolled north on Wethersfield Ave. near Elliot St. in a marked cruiser. They spotted a small dark-colored car enter Wethersfield Ave from Elliot St. He spotted that it was dragging something and did not have its headlights on. The officer pursued the vehicle but did not catch up to it. He then followed a trail of liquid left on the pavement that lead to the area of Jordan Ln near Ridge Rd.

The officer would then find Leah's body lying against the northern curb of Jordan Lane. It would be determined that she would die due to extensive blunt trauma from being dragged by the vehicle for over 4 miles. It was believed that she was either holding onto a seat belt or was hooked onto it. That door will be damaged as it was open during the drag. There was no way the driver did not know. It's likely she was dragged starting on Elliot St. as her shoes were left parallel next to each other on the road as if they fell off when she first started getting dragged.
