Medical Mysteries: Logan Carroll

On April 6, 1995, Todd and Tami Caroll went to the hospital to give birth to their third child. They were worried for the child though as their second, Megan, was stillborn. They would get tests and an ultrasound and everything seemed to be normal. The doctors would induce labor at 8:45 a.m. Contractions would grow stronger and more frequent throughout the day and by 4:30 she would begin to give birth. The fetal monitor would show a normal heartbeat but when she began to push it would go down. At 4:42 their son, Logan would be born without a heartbeat.

CPR was done on the newborn and doctors and an emergency team tried their best to save his life. After 15 minutes though there was no heartbeat or signs of brain activity. At 5:15 Logan would be pronounced dead and his parents and family grieved the loss of another child.

Doctors and nurses would take pictures of Logan with his family. This was when Tami's sister heard a gasping noise from him. It was initially believed to have been a reflex as it had been 40 minutes after death. Tami's mother was holding the small child when she realized that he was getting warmer. A nurse would soon realize Logan had a heart rate, and then his Doctor determined he was in fact alive.

It was a miracle as 6 doctors and 8 nurses had determined he had died, but somehow was alive. In just a few hours he was seen as a happy healthy baby. There was brain damage and confined to a wheelchair. He would pass away in 2020 but was said to have lived a happy life with his family.
