Murder of Edwin Dusek

On July 2, 1973, 45-year-old Edwin Dusek left his home to Orlando, Florida to start his route. He was a salesman and was heading to Niveco Inc. in Orlando. He ran his route like usual and ended up in High Springs.  He checked into a High Springs hotel on July 5th like he does every Monday night. He was supposed to be back at the hotel room at 8 p.m. for his routine phone call with his wife. No one heard from him again.

Around 2 p.m. the next afternoon, his body was found. A realtor was showing some property in the area of Millhopper Rd. in Gainsville, Florida found him about 100 yards into the property in the sand near the road.

He had been shot to death and was found only wearing a shirt and sock. He was killed where he was found. There were signs of a struggle in the area. His body also had signs of small pinpricks on his back. It was unknown what had caused them.

His car was found in abandoned Gainesville along with his wallet and the rest of his clothes. It was possible he was killed with his own 9 millimeter which was missing from his car and was the same type he was killed with.

His car had sand in the back and front seat from the crime scene. It's unlikely he picked up a hitchhiker as he was so against it he would get onto friends who would do it.
