Murder of Debbie Lynn Randall

Around 7 p.m. on January 13, 1972 Debbie Lynn Randall went to the laundromat with her stepfather to do laundry he left soon after. It was only half a block from her family’s apartment complex in Marietta, Georgia. Around 8:30 her mother got worried. She came in asking the employee working where Debbie was. She responded was told that Debbie left an hour before.

Spilled laundry detergent was found in a parking lot across the street from her home. Two youths didn’t see her get abducted, but did see a dark pickup truck in the area. It had quickly backed up to the area where the detergent was found and drove away quickly. It is believed this may have been the man who abducted her.

A search quickly ensued for the 9 year old. The search was so large it was the biggest the Cobb County has had. Sadly there was nothing they could do. For the 16 days they searched for her,but sadly she would not be found alive.

Around 5:10 p.m. on Saturday 29, 1972 a group of Southern Tech students found her body. She was still wearing the same clothes she disappeared in. Sadly she was sexually assaulted and strangled to death and it was believed she died the day she was taken.

The mother described an event two months before to the police and newspapers. Debbie and a friend had been offered candy by a stranger. The two girls ran home quickly and told their mother. It wasn't stated whether or not the children felt threatened or not. It's also unknown if this is connected at all.
