On August 14, 1983, 14-year-old Marc Vanhert and his 10-year-old brother were returning home from a visit with a relative. His brother was riding a bike and Marc was walking in Bassenge, Eben–Emael, Belgium. The last time Marc was seen was when his brother got on top of a hill and looked back at him not even a kilometer from their home.
He never arrived home. It's believed that foul play is involved and racking dogs had followed his scent, but had lost it. A suspected pedophile was questioned at the time of his disappearance.
