Murder of David Neal McGinnis


Around 9:29 p.m.on October 6, 1989 24-year-old David McGinnis and his friends were walking on Statesville Ave. in Charlotte, North Carolina. They were walking on the shoulder of the road. A vehicle with a few people inside pulled alongside the group and some words were exchanged. The car then sped off.

Unbeknownst to the group the car turned around in a parking lot and drove towards them on the shoulder. David was hit by the car and landed in the ditch. The car tried to hit the others but they were able to escape. The car then turned left on Durnham Lane.

David was taken to CMC but was pronounced dead from a head injury caused from the hit and run. The vehicle was described as a four-door marron Mercury Sable with North Carolina Plates. The people in the car was unknown to the group.
