Several people came forward claiming to have seen the girl the day before on Halloween. Though none claimed to have known the girl.
One of the witnesses said they saw her at South End Gulf Station around 6:30 pm. They claimed that the girl look disheveled like she had been traveling or had slept in the clothes. They claimed that she had asked for directions to the Ellis Unit. She left the gas station on foot. More than likely trying to hitchhike. The clothes that the girl was described as wearing were blue jeans, a yellow pullover sweater with large pockets, and was carrying high-heeled sandals. .
Another witness was a waitress at the Hitchin Post truck stop on I-45 who claimed to see her the same night. The girl once again asked for directions to the Ellis Unit saying she was meeting a friend there. A map was drawn for her, it was not found with the body. The waitress was suspicious that the girl was a runaway and asked her several questions.
She asked for the girl's age. The response was 19 and the waitress did not believe her.
She asked the girl if her parents knew where she was. Her response was, “Who Cares?”
She also asked the girl where she was from and the girl's response was the Aransas and Rockport area.
Ellis Unit was 14 miles away from where the body was found. The police passed around the photo of the girl around Ellis and none of the inmates claimed to have known the girl. It is possible though that the inmate or worker that is the possible friend was afraid to admit that they had known the girl.

ReplyDeleteWith how DNA has changed over the years,I would think they would run her DNA through the database or run her picture in the data base. This is sad, and this girl should have her name and not be called jane doe :-(
ReplyDeleteThey did run DNA and she is in the database. She has not matched anyone as of yet.
