On December 17, 1991, 15-year-old Katrien De Cuyper was last seen in IJzerlaan, Antwerp, Flanders, Belgium visiting a friend. She walked to the bus stop alone in the rain to catch a bus back home to Brasschaat. At 9:30 p.m. she phoned her parents to tell them she was taking the bus home. She had missed the bus though and was seen at 10:24 p.m. at Les Routiers café on the IJzerlaan. Inside the cafe, she made another call to an unknown person. Six months later her body was found.
On June 19, 1992, her naked body was found in a shallow grave while groundwork was being done in the port of Antwerp near Tijsmans tunnel. She had been strangled to death and it isn't known if she was sexually assaulted.
Letters were sent after Katrien's death. In the letters, it was stated that Katrien was kidnapped, raped and killed during an orgy by a pedophile ring.
In August of 2006 35-year-old Suspect known as Karl V.R., He was arrested for the stalking and was charged for the kidnapping and murder of Katrien. There was not enough evidence in the crime towards him though and he was released.
A search of his house though leads to finding child pornography on his computer and a box that contained newspaper clippings. His DNA was found on a stamp on the envelope sent to her parents. He claimed he wanted himself to seem interesting. He was prosecuted for the pornography found in 2007.
