Lost Film: Actress (1928)

The Actress was a silent film that is one of many MGM's lost films from the 1920s. It was based on Trelawny of the 'Wells'." a Broadway play that debuted in 1898. It was one of many early adaptations of the play.

The working on the movie began in December of 1927. Then the 67-minute silent film was released on April 28, 1928.25-year-old Norma Shearer plays the leading lady as Rose Trelawney. Full information about the film is out there, but the actual film is lost. It is unknown if there is a copy or if it would be rereleased if there was.

Synopsis of Film from AFI Catalog:
"Rose Trelawney, a popular actress, marries Arthur Gower, of noble birth, and is brought into his austere household. She leaves when her in-laws insult her theater friends. Still, in love with Gower, Rose loses her desire to act and faces poverty. Gower's father, Sir Arthur, attempts to help her by backing a play of hers. Unknown to Rose, Gower plays opposite her. The play is a success, and the family achieves harmony."
