Disappearance of Kirsa Mary Jensen

On September 1, 1983, 14-year-old Kirsa Jensen rode her horse along Awatoto Beach in Napier, New Zealand. It's believed that she made it to the beach by 3:30 p.m. When she didn't return home by 5:30 her parents began to worry. Her family and friends began to search for her, but they did not find her. Her horse was found wandering by itself at the Tutakuri River near a gun emplacement she was last seen near.

Witness said that they saw a girl matching Kirsa's description was by the gun emplacement on the Tutakuri River. She was being held at arm's length by a European man around 1.8 meters tall between 40 and 50 years old. The same witness noticed a white utility vehicle with brown sides nearby.

John Russell a convicted rapist stated that he was the one last seen with her. He said he killed her but later retracted his confession. He was also adamite in not being involved in her disappearance at the same time. He later committed suicide and it's never been proven whether or not he was or wasn't involved.
