On December 10, 1987, 85-year-old Raymond James was in the process of moving to repaired bikes when he was attacked. He was attacked from the rear and was beaten. He was found by a dumpster at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Park 1000 block of Owens in Bakersfield, California. He later died during surgery. His money was stolen out of his wallet.
