Monsters: Abaia

In Melasian Mythology in the freshwater lakes in Fiji, the Solomon Islands and the Vanuatu Islands are where the Abaia live. The Abaia is a large protective eel and considers all creatures in these lakes their children. They will furiously attack those who disturb or mean harm to the lake and its creatures.

The Abaia is said to use its powerful tail to cause waves to overwhelm fishermen. Or if someone is to harm a creature the Abaia had the ability to cause a rainstorm strong bad enough for flooding land, and drown those who did them harm.
