Murder of Elizabeth Bertolino

On the night of Feb. 20, 1982 48-year-old Elizabeth Bertolino was working at the Omni Hotel at 100 Techwood Dr. She was working as a freelance violinist and had a job there that night. She was last seen at 9:15 p.m. when she was leaving the convention center with her violin and purse. Soon after she entered the walkway that connected the Omni Hotel and the Ga. World Congress Center she was attacked.

She had been walking alone and the conventions only a few feet behind as they heard her screams from both ends of the hallway. She was then found quickly and the people who were close said that a man ran off with a purse. They had taken her purse, but not her violin.

It was found that Elizabeth had been stabbed during the robbery. Her husband claimed that she never would have fought against a mugger and the killing wasn't necessary for her purse. It's likely the motive for Elizabeth's murder was robbery as her purse had been taken, but the killer left behind her violin and her pocketbook was later found in the parking lot.

I could not find if they found the man or if he's still considered a suspect in more recent articles. But at the time this was the suspect of the crime. He's a black male who was 18-22-years-old and was around 5'10" and around 155lbs. He had a short trimmed afro, brown eyes and medium-dark complexion He was possibly wearing a rust-colored windbreaker, dark pants, tennis shoes, and a blue hat.

  1. I am the youngest daughter of Elizabeth "Anne" Bertolino. I was just 15 when she was murdered. I am now 53 years old and trying to get the Atlanta PD to reopen her case and take another look. As well as I want publicity again about the case. Just curious how her story made this blog about Urban Legends and fun mysteries?

    1. I'm sorry for your loss. I hope that the Atlanta PD does reopen her case.

My blog started out as a mystery blog, but it has come out more as a Unsolved Crimes blog and I added the Urban legends and Fun mysteries to the description as a way to show my blog isn't all morbid even though it pretty much is. I add a lot of unsolved murders/unidentified/missing people on here.
