Murder of Linda L. Weldy

On February 24, 1987, 10-year-old Linda L. Weldy was dropped off by the school bus at 181 W. McClung Rd. in LaPorte, Indiana around 3:30 p.m.  The other children said that they saw her walk towards her family mailbox. After checking the mail she was supposed to walk 250 yards down a curved gravel road to her home that was hidden by trees. She never made it home that night.

It was assumed that Linda may have stayed the night at someone's house. Her mother didn't know about her disappearance until her boyfriend told her after she left her shift at 11:30 p.m. When it was realized that she didn't stay the night at her friends she the police were notified.

There was a massive search effort, but she wasn't found till three weeks later. On March 17th her body was found on an abandoned Wabash Railroad Right of Way neat Kingsbury by a farmer. It was found the young girl had been strangled to death.
