Murder of Richard Aderson

On Feb. 5, 1997, 47-year-old Richard Aderson was driving home from Valley Central School District where he worked as an assistant superintendent around 6 p.m. He was driving along Interstate 84 in Fishkill, New York when he was in a minor car accident with another vehicle.

The cars pulled over to the side of the road around 1/5 mile from Exit 12. When they got out of the car the driver of the other vehicle was yelling at Richard. After a brief argument the man pulled a gun out and shot Richard in the chest and drove eastbound in I-84. He was able to get to his car and call 911 and described the shooting and the shooter. Unfortunately, Richard died before the police could arrive.

Police set up a roadblock and tried to locate the killer or any witnesses to the shooting. Several people did come forward seeing the argument, but none of them claimed to have seen the accident or the shooting.

Richard described the killer as late 40s to early 50's. He was a white male with a medium complexion. He was around 6'0" and very thin. He was either bald or a receding hairline, a thin nose, glasses, and a beard. He was also dressed messily. He was driving a possibly green colored late model Jeep Cherokee-type, and New Hampshire license plates with green letters and white background.
