Disappearance of David Micheal Bacon

22-year-old David Micheal Bacon was last seen leaving his night shift job at Beh-Manning factory in Watervliet, New York around 11:30 p.m. on April 10, 1969. He was supposed to pick up his brother but never arrived. He was never seen again.

His car was found abandoned on Oil Mill Hill not far from Waterford Bridge. He still had items in the car. His lunch was in the back seat and his paycheck was in the front. At the time it was believed he left on is own terms, but after time began to pass they suspected foul play. It's unknown if an investigation was done as his file was purged from state files.

In Jan. of 2009 Nelson E. Costello was arrested and charged with murder and two counts of witness tampering in Bacon's case. At the time Costello worked as a constable in Waterford, New York in 1969, and carried a gun.

In Oct. of 2008, Costello realized law enforcement was investigating him for David's disappearance. In response, Costello allegedly contacted witnesses tried to stop them from giving investigators information. It's believed that he killed David in a rivalry over a woman David was engaged to.

Costello pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter. He confessed that he was dressed as a constable and pulled David over. He possibly wasn't on duty at the time. He told him that the captain needed to speak with him. He drove David to an area near a public boat launch at Alcathy's Marina on Flight Lock Road in Waterford. He claimed to shot him three times in the chest and placed the body in his trunk. He drove the body to Bedford County, Virginia and buried it along the James River.

It could be possible that David's body was washed out to sea. In 1985 a hurricane struck the area and flooded the river and may have caused the body to be washed away.

In 2010 Costello was sentenced 5 to 17 years in prison.

David is a white male and was 22 at the time. He was 5'8" and 145 lbs. He has Light brown hair and blue eyes. He has tattoos. He has one on his upper left arm with hearts, flowers, arrows and Mary, a scroll and Dave on upper right arm, and a cross on left forearm. He was last seen wearing green slacks, black checkered shirt, and black ski jacket.
