The Buggane

The Buggane is a humanoid creature or cryptid that's native to the Isle of Man. It's a shape-shifter and an ogre-like creature who tends to live in old ruins, forests, and waterfalls. It will reside there until disturbed somehow and are unable to cross water or stand on hollow ground. In some variations, the Buggane is a water spirit that resides in waterfalls and streams.

They can often be seen as a horse or cow, but can also take on a human appearance. It's noticeable when they are in their human form as they have long teeth, hair, and nails. Their natural form is depicted as being covered in coarse black hair, and having eyes like torches, and has sharp glistening tusks.

Bugganes's are considered intelligent as they can communicate with humans. They have great strength and magical abilities. Fairies call upon the Buggane's to help punish people who've offended them. The most famous story involving the Buggane is that involving St. Trinian's Church in The Isle of Man.

In the 14th century, the St. Trinian's Church was going to build near the Greeba Mountains on the Isle of Man. The Buggane knew that the church was going to be built. He was angry because he knew the bells would disturb the peace. Thus when the church would build a roof upon the building he would tear it down.  The people gave up building the roof when it was torn down a third time.
