On April 22, 1988 a garbage man working his route in Portland, Oregon. saw smoke coming from a home on 7625 SE 21st Ave. around 6 a.m. He tried to enter the residence, but couldn't because of the smoke. He ran to neighbors home and called 911.
Inside was the body of 77-year-old widow Grace Turel. She lived in the home alone after her husband passed two years before. Grace was assaulted and then the killer set the home on fire. She had died due to asphyxiation.
It was known Grace was conscious about her security and wouldn't leave her doors unlocked or open them to strangers. There were no signs of a break-in or robbery. It's possible she killed by someone she knew.
